Limit Large Attachment Downloads in Outlook 2003-2007

There are few people out there wondering how to limit the file attachment size for download due to the following reasons:

  1. You don’t want to download large attachments on your mobile (limited data availability)
  2. You have set up multiple accounts on your outlook and one of them carries lot of junk and large size attachments
  3. There could be many more reasons
Coming back to the original point, in order to limit the attachment size I will do the followings:
1) Choose Tools -> Options

2) Select the Mail Setup tab
Microsoft Outlook Tools -&grt; Options -&grt; Mail Setup
3) Click Send/Receive… button, following dialog box appears
Microsoft Outlook     Send/Receive Groups
4) Now on Send/Receive Groups dialog select the group name (in my case I have only one group All Accounts) and click Edit… button, following dialog appears
Microsoft Outlook Send/Receive Settings - All Accounts
5) Now select the account from the accounts tab you want to limit the attachment size for
6) By default “Download complete item including attachments” is selected, check option “Download only headers for items larger than” and specify the size of the item in KB
Microsoft Outlook Send/Receive Settings - All Accounts
7) Commit all your changes by clicking OK, OK, OK, OK until you see the Outlook main screen and you are done 😉
